The animal-loving communities of Western New York mourn the loss of Susan Ferry, a dedicated advocate, highly skilled trainer, and compassionate leader in pet care. Susan passed away unexpectedly on April 18, 2024, in Buffalo, New York, at the age of 69. Susan was born on February 2, 1955, in Fort Rucker, Alabama, to Ted and Irene Ferry. Growing up in a military family, she eventually settled in Lake View, New York, where she spent her final joyful years. She graduated from Newbury Park High School (CA) in 1973, earned her associate degree from Moorpark College, and later obtained a Paralegal Certificate from USC. Susan's notable achievement was founding "A Pawsitive Experience," one of Western New York's long-running dog training and boarding businesses. Prior to establishing herself in Lake View, NY, Susan worked as a Paralegal in California and Washington State.Despite facing health challenges later in life, Susan remained unwavering in her passion for caring for her clients' beloved furry family members. Renowned for her compassion in advocating for the welfare of dogs and cats, Susan's expertise at her dog daycare/boarding and training facility was sought after by many new pet owners. Her effective training methods often transformed challenging pets into recipients of the prestigious AKC "Canine Good Citizen" certificate. Susan proudly showcased her training expertise around town by way of her Shiloh shepherds. Susan was a pillar of her community, creating happy pet environments that touched countless families over the years. In addition to her dedication to animals, Susan found joy in crafts, gardening, and cooking. Her beautifully packaged treats at annual soup and cookie exchanges often earned her the coveted "Best Dressed" awards. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Ted, and Irene Ferry, and more recently, her brother Stephen. She is survived by her sisters, Karin and Kristina, her nieces Karisa and Lara, and her grandnieces Kaylie and Madison. We'd be remiss not to include Susan's treasured furry family members survived by Susan's passing. Traveler, Ramona, Beezus, Lenny, Benjamin, Bella, Kiki, Alice, and Sallie. Special thanks to the Western New York animal communities who provided immense support, especially Elisa, Kelly, Jennifer, Jacob, and Saundra, who went above and beyond to care for Susan's beloved pets.A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at 12 PM EST at Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park, NY at Shelter #8 (Casino side) with a short walk to follow.
